How to Effortlessly Switch to a Natural Skincare Routine for Glowing Skin

How to Effortlessly Switch to a Natural Skincare Routine for Glowing Skin

One evening, my husband sent me a video and links that made me rethink the everyday products I use. The video highlighted something I had never really considered before—phthalates and parabens, which are commonly found in personal care items like deodorants, shampoos, and even toothpaste. After learning about their potential health risks, I knew I had to make a change.

Parabens are commonly found in leave-on and rinse-off products, especially those with high water content, such as shampoos, conditioners, moisturizers, sunscreens, deodorants, shaving gels, and even toothpaste. These chemicals are absorbed through the skin, metabolized by the body, and excreted in urine and bile. The concern arises from the continuous exposure from using multiple products daily, leading to widespread detection in biomonitoring surveys.

So, I made a decision—a big one. I decided to ditch every chemical-laden skincare and haircare product for at least 28 days and switched to 100% natural, homemade alternatives.

And no, this isn’t one of those expensive, hard-to-follow routines. Everything I use is available right here in our kitchen, at our local market, or at that trusty Ayurvedic shop down the street.

Why Go Natural? (The Stats Will Shock You!)

Before we jump into the DIYs, let’s talk numbers. You know, just to give us that final push.

  • -60% of what we apply to our skin gets absorbed into the bloodstream. That means, yes, those toxins in your shampoo might just be swimming inside you. (American Journal of Public Health)
  • – Parabens were found in 99% of breast cancer tissues tested in a study by the University of Reading, UK.
  • – Sulfates strip natural oils from the scalp, causing dryness, frizz, and hair fall. That luxurious foam? It’s just a marketing gimmick.

Now that we’re (rightfully) horrified, let’s move on to the fun part—DIY beauty recipes that actually work!

  1. The fact is that the available market products are the easiest choice for us to take care of our skin, making homemade I agree is 100% safe and great, but do we relly have that much time in life to make packs and then apply. I really wonder. But yes we can expect the market products to be more organic for safe use.

    1. I understand, dear, it’s not easy, but once you decide to switch to natural products, you’ll be able to do it. You can make your face wash and moisturizer and store them in a jar.

I’ve been wanting to shift to a more natural skincare routine, but it always felt a bit overwhelming—your tips made it sound so doable and stress-free. I really liked how you broke things down step-by-step without being preachy. Also, that reminder about patch testing? Gold! 💛 Definitely going to start slow and listen to my skin more. Thanks for such a helpful, balanced take on going natural

  3. I began thinking about the products I use and realised that the only chemical one was the conditioner, because I have really dry hair. I think that needs to changed with better food intake.

  4. This is a nice and easy all-natural daily skincare routine. As a Skincare Coach, although I cannot rule out the use of chemicals, especially in sunscreens, also using some ingredients like besan daily can cause micro-tears.

  5. You have shared excellent alternatives to the chemical gooeys bought for a ransom. I have been using only natural products always. I am 61 now and everyone asks me about my skin and hair. I use curd and sugar as a scrub and believe me it’s such an easy and fast way for a glowing skin. I have shared posts for natural hair colour, oil, and face packs as well on my blog.

    1. Oh wow maam. I’ll definitely check out your post on natural hair color. Yes, people often think natural skincare is time-consuming, but once you commit to it, it becomes easier. While it may not be possible to completely avoid store-bought products, we can certainly minimize our use of them.

  6. Commendable job done!
These cosmetics can be very harmful and I too have mentioned in my BlogachatterA2Z series on PCOD , the chemicals in a lot of cosmetics that we use daily are causing hormonal imbalances in our body by interfering with the synthesis. I have been trying to minimise the use of chemicals. I use coconut oil or olive oil for moisturising and try to avoid sunscreen and use physical barriers like a dupatta or an umbrella.

    1. Thank you so much dear. I completely agree, the chemicals in cosmetics can have a significant impact on our health. It’s great to know we’re on the same page about minimizing their use.

  7. I love how you break down the steps to switching to a natural skincare routine without feeling overwhelmed. The tips on choosing clean ingredients and creating a simple yet effective routine made me feel like this is doable for someone like me who is such a lazy bum when it comes to self-care. I’m excited to try some of your recommendations over the coming weekend, which definitely will require some relaxation after the A2Z stress. Thanks Anjali

  8. I am still using besan pack instead of facewash and home made scrub. I always feel insecure with chemical. And so my basic skin care are always like your. Shikekai powder my mom used for my hair. Now I am using mild shampoo. Useful Post and tips

  9. I’ve always wanted to make this shift, but preparing the pastes felt too time-consuming. Your idea of mixing and storing the powders makes it seem much more doable now!

  10. I am saving this !

I am going to try these natural tips for glowing skin as summer is starting to work on my skin

  12. This is so true that many times we ignore the wealth we have been using in our kitchens! Thanks for listing the treasure we all have in our homes.

  13. Wow this takes serious commitment – kudos to you for doing this. What changes did you observe in yourself after 28 days?

    1. The goal isn’t just about the immediate results, but about nourishing and caring for the skin in a way that’s gentle and free from harsh chemicals, over time leading to healthier, happier skin. It’s all about the long-term benefits and embracing a simpler, more natural routine.

  14. Wow! super easy and doable DIY for almost all the products we use on a daily basis. This is a very useful post–thanks for sharing.

  15. Natural homemade products are always the best. Sadly, convenience and easy availability makes us choose readymade products. I used masoor dal powder and besan with haldi and milk on my face for the longest time and it was great for my skin. Must go back to it. Good hacks!

    1. Oo yes, masoor dal is best for scrub, forgot to add it here.

  16. I have been using besan for my face since time immemorial. But I am yet to use natural stuff for my hair. Will try your method.

  17. I love how simple your face wash recipe is. I love to use besan and turmeric too! Feels good to go back to those roots.
