As I was reading Maya Angelou’s famous poem, “Still I Rise,” I couldn’t help but feel inspired. The lines “You may write me down in history, With your bitter, twisted lies,” resonated with me deeply. So, I decided to pen my own version of it.
Here is my version of it….
I’m Here To Vocalise
You may write me down in books,
With your harsh, twisted lies,
You may try to keep me quiet,
But I’m here to vocalise!
You may trod me in the dirt,
And try to keep me down,
But I won’t let you dim my light,
Or turn my smile into a frown.
For I am a woman, hear me roar,
And I won’t let your words bring me low,
I’ll rise up like a phoenix from the ashes,
And show you just how far I can go.
I may be small in stature,
But I’m strong as an ox,
And I won’t let anyone tell me,
That I can’t break through any blocks.
So here’s to all the women out there,
Who keep fighting every day,
Who rise up strong and never give up,
And always find a way.
We’re a force to be reckoned with,
And we’ll never be silenced or stilled,
For we are women, hear us roar,
And we’ll keep climbing that hill.
You may write me down in books,
With your harsh, twisted lies,
You may try to keep me quiet,
But I’m here to vocalise!

A woman can do everything, soft and versatile, she is an epitome of real power. I loved the way you have given her a poetic rhythm.
That’s a powerful poem, Anjali. A woman’s kindness should never be mistaken for weakness. She has amazing will and can conquer anything if she wants to.
We women are definitely strong as ox, no matter how petite our stature is! Such beautiful words Anjali! We are strong women and definitely vocal and it’s useless trying to suppress us .
A powerpacked poem that speaks out the heart of every woman on this earth. Yes, we are here to roar and no one can stop us to shine and grow. We are unstoppable and can walk that extra miles in life to ensure that we achieve what we desire. We can create that difference in life which many cant think of doing. We are not here to stay silent and bear the pain that people want to give us… we know how to make our own place in this world and even can deliver leadership in various roles. We are born to be the best. Hearty congratulations Anjali for this brilliant piece of art.
I’m sure this poem resonates with all women. Somewhere in our journey, we have all encountered people who mock us and try to silence us….but in the end, we end up roaring! Beautiful lines.

You have vocalized so well, Anjali. It really touched a chord in me. I also want women to be empowered and be a power to reckon with. They will try to keep us quiet but we are going to vocalize. I feel like raising my fist and cry it out as a slogan.
Your poem is absolutely on point. We women are no longer going to keep quiet. We will vocalize and make sure we are heard. High time we are stopped being treated as weaker sex.
I loved the poem. I specially loved the line. For I am a woman hear me roar. Your poem motivates us women to rise and shine and break through the shackles and rise up.
