Ever wondered what stories lie behind your favorite Indian sweets? Well, I recently got my hands on the “Sweet Chronicles: A Journey Through the History of Indian Sweets” – Anthology this month, and let me tell you, it’s a sweet journey you won’t want to miss!
And yes seeing my name as a co-author filled me with joy and gratitude. This marks my second book as a co-author, and I couldn’t be happier about it!
You would love to read my first book here.
About the Editor
Big thanks to Samata for making it all happen. Now let me tell you something interesting about her. She’s not just the founder of E-portal entertainment website Indiacafe24.com, but also a freelance content creator, book reviewer, blogger, author, and avid traveller. And guess what? She is also an occult, besides being a science expert. She’s a woman of many talents!
Indeed, her creativity, hard work and talent have sprinkled some sugar magic into this book. Her passion for exploring the world of Indian sweets has genuinely made this anthology a remarkable journey for all involved.
It wasn’t easy for me to get my hands on this book as soon as it was published. Living in Oman while it hit the shelves in India made it a bit tricky. But thanks to Samata. She teamed up with the book publisher team, did some sugar magic to get it delivered to my friend’s place in India. Then, when my friend returned to Oman, she handed over the copy to me. Samata truly went above and beyond to make sure I got my hands on this book!
Embracing the Sweet Challenge
When I first heard about the Anthology topic History of Indian Sweets, I wasn’t too sure. Being someone who’s not exactly crazy about sweets or skilled at writing about them, I had my doubts about taking the challenge.
But yes, life’s all about trying new things, right? So, despite my doubts and sugar aversion, I decided to take on the challenge. And am I glad I did!
My family threw out all sorts of sweet ideas, but nah, I was like, “That one’s way too sugary for me; I’d just mess it up.” But then it hit me—I could totally write about my all-time favorite sweet and its epic history.
Even though I had my doubts at the start, I couldn’t help but get excited about digging into my chosen sweet’s juicy cultural and culinary backstory.
My Thoughts
As I flipped through the pages, I was hit with a wave of sugary surprise. It turns out that Indian sweets are way more than just your run-of-the-mill desserts. From the streets of Kolkata to the sugar land of India, Uttar Pradesh, each sweet had a story to tell—and I was here for it.
Well, I’ll be honest, there are some sweets in this book that I’ve never even heard of before. But you know what? That’s part of the fun! I mean, who would’ve thought there were so many different ways to sweeten up a treat?
Wrap Up:
So, what did I learn from my unexpected adventure into the world of Indian sweets? Well, for starters, never judge a sweet by its sugar content. Secondly, when life hands you a box of sweets, dig in and enjoy the taste. Who knows, you might just discover your new favourite treat—or, at the very least, a sweet story to tell.

Anjali❤ thank you so much for being a part of this book . It was not easy for me to do this book until and unless my contributors supported me with so much love. Sweets are an integral part of Indian culture and so I made a small attempt to creat a platform to talk about few sweets and their history. The diversity of the sweet history is huge in this book and I thank all my Co authors to help me learn about few sweets I was not aware about. I wish more people read it and know about Indian Sweets 😋
It is indeed an ode to the India’s great legacy of sweet dishes. The anthology is truly an epic in its own right. Sandy N Vyjay

I just read your fascinating blog on the history of Indian sweets—what an enlightening journey through their rich traditions and flavors! It’s incredible how these sweets reflect such a deep cultural heritage. On a related note, I recently dined at Appetiser Restaurant, where I enjoyed their amazing strawberry waffles. They were a perfect balance of crispy and fluffy, with fresh strawberries and a hint of sweetness. It was a delightful contrast to the traditional sweets you described, showing how diverse and creative the world of desserts can be. Thanks for the great read and inspiring me to explore more delicious treats!
