How to make Apple Jam at Home

How to make Apple Jam at Home

The flavours of apples, Ginger julienne, sugar, cinnamon and cardamom come together in this spreadable treat. This apple jam is a must-have at our breakfast table.

It makes me glad to see our kids enjoying these simple homemade jams.

This unique Apple Jam Recipe is simple to make and has a gorgeous golden colour, a fresh apple flavour, a chunky texture, and a surprise hint of spices from the cinnamon and cardamom.

The healthiest meals come from home.

Now that I have tried this Apple Jam recipe, I donā€™t think I will be using store-bought jams again. It is so easy to make, and the taste is light and sweet simultaneously. There are no artificial flavours, colours, or preservatives. It’s just pure apple and beetroot goodness.

P.S: When making apple jam, there are a few things to keep in mind. First and foremost, choose apples when they are in season. They have more flavour and consistency than apples, which have been stored for a long time.

How to make Apple Jam at Home

P.S: I add beetroot juice for colour. You can skip this part. Please note that some beetroots taste slightly bitter. Adding the juice of such beetroots may spoil the taste. So, taste first and judge for yourself.

Ingredients for Apple Jam

  • 1 kg apples (firm apples are best)
  • 350 grm Sugar
  • 2 lemons juice
  • 2 teaspoon beetroot juice
  • Ginger julienne (8 to 10)
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 1/3rd spoon black pepper powder
  • Elaichi(cardamom) – 4 (peel and crush to make a fine powder)

I grated the Apple in a food processor. If you want a smooth Apple jam, chop the apples and blend them once they’re cooked.

Instructions for preparing Apple Jam

  1. Wash, peel and grate all the apples removing the seeds and their central core.
  2. Put the grated apple and Ginger julienne in a pan with a thick base, cover and boil. Once it comes to a boil, boil for another 10 minutes till the apple pieces turn soft. Keep stirring.
  3. Now add sugar and keep intermittently stirring until the sugar dissolves and the mixture starts to boil.
  4. Now add sweet Beetroot juice and mix well.
  5. Add cardamom, black pepper powder, and cinnamon pieces.
  6. Stir constantly to keep the jam from sticking to the bottom of the pan.
  7. To check if the jam is cooked, pour a little bit of jam on a plate; it has to fall together, and water should not fall separately. If it holds its shape, it’s good to go! If it appears runny or watery, continue cooking.
  8. When the jam has reached the desired consistency, Turn the gas off.
  9. Remove the cinnamon stick.
  10. After cooling to 50 degC, add the lemon juice and mix thoroughly.

Ladle the finished jam into clean (sterilized) jars, cover them tightly, and put them into the refrigerator. Jams will last up to 2 weeks.

P.S: Some recipes on the internet will instruct you to add water; however, there is no need to add water to this one.
