With the arrival of beautiful rainy weather and holidays, children will have memorable moments of joy, but they’ll also encounter some of the drawbacks of these hot and humid periods, such as Insect bites and stings.
Insect Bites during Rainy and Summer Season
Insect bites are prevalent throughout the rainy season while certain areas pose a little health risk, they are undeniably the most vexing. These Insect bites or stings may be prevented to some extent in children, and we have several techniques to help prevent them.
Our children may bring home the occasional insect bite this summer since they cannot be completely avoided, but we can reduce their incidence by taking a few basic precautions.
Parents must be prepared for anything, but most importantly, they must emphasize the importance of prevention in all situations. Finally, here are some pointers to help you protect your children’s skin from insects and bug bites at home.

If you engage in outdoor activities, it is almost mandatory to apply a variety of remedies to alleviate the irritation produced by insect stings or even their poison.
Using a skin repellent (here) is one method of keeping mosquitoes and insects away from your children’s skin and, as a result, lowering the chance of them being bitten. It is recommended to look at the different alternatives on the market and follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
Insect repellents are not recommended for babies under 3 months of age.
2. Ice Cubes
If you’re looking for natural insect bite treatments that are safe for newborns and toddlers, ice is an excellent, calming option to consider. To decrease inflammation and alleviate heat from swelling, place a few ice cubes in an ice pack – or wrap them in a washcloth or towel to keep them from being too cold on the baby’s skin. – and apply them to the bite (s)
3. Tea Bags
Green and black tea bags are great natural insect or mosquito bites treatments for swelling and discomfort. Pour hot water over the teabag and allow it to steep for a few minutes before removing it from the water and chill or freeze it until cold, ensuring that most of the water has been squeezed out. No wonder, Aloe Vera is called a magical herb because of its skin-soothing and refreshing properties! For natural treatment, scoop off the gel from a fresh aloe vera leaf using a spoon. Allow this to dry on the skin where the bites are seen. Because of its anti-inflammatory properties, aloe will aid in the cleaning of the bite as well as the reduction of swelling and discomfort.
5. Oat Meal

6. Listerine Mouth Wash

Any other menthol-containing mouthwash might work as well (I have only tried Listerine so far). Wash and dry the area that has been bitten by the insect. The insect-bitten area should be washed and dried. Soak a cotton ball in mouthwash and apply it to the bites.
7. Calamine Lotion
Calamine lotion (here) can be used to relieve the itch caused by the bite. You can easily get it at a pharmacy near you. If you don’t have any lotion, make a thick paste out of baking soda and water. A little quantity should be applied to the affected area.
You are well aware of turmeric’s anti-inflammatory properties, which make it a perfect remedy for itching and swelling caused by insect bites. Make a paste of turmeric and water and apply it to the afflicted area. Allow it to dry completely before washing it.
9. Epsom Salt
Fill a spray bottle halfway with a teaspoon of salt and a cup of water. Apply it to the affected area and leave it on for a few minutes. Wash it after 10 minutes. Make certain that you only use high-quality Epsom salt. In my opinion, it is not suitable for infants.
10. Essential Oils
Finally, what l would suggest to the individuals searching for natural insect bite treatments is, to experiment with essential oils. When applying essential oils to the skin, keep in mind that they must be diluted with a carrier oil, such as coconut (here) or grapeseed oil, since direct application to the skin may not suit you.
Fill a spray container halfway with water to make a dilute spray. Per ounce of water, combine 2 to 3 drops of essential oil with 2 to 3 drops of liquid carrier oil. Before using, give it a good shake. To get treatment from bug bites, spray on them.

Trim your childrens’ nails
- To keep him or her from scratching the open bite, trim (here) your childrens’ nails. Infected insect bites and stings are more likely to occur when they come into contact with blood. Scratching at the bite may also cause bacteria from under your baby’s nails to enter the bite. Trimming your baby’s nails will also aid in the prevention of scarring.
Dress your infant in light, cotton long-sleeved shirts (here) and pants before going out.
After being bitten by an insect or mosquito, it is typical to experience some swelling. Call a doctor only if the condition is urgent or if there are further troubling indications. Contact your paediatrician if your newborn gets a fever, becomes disoriented, or seems light-sensitive.
